What Kind of Photos to Submit for Model Agency Representation?

To get to the interview table of a Singapore model agency, your photos are akin to a resume. It is vital to submit the best quality and different type of photos, preferably on your first attempt, to nail a solid impression and get the best modeling jobs possible. We list a few tips and rules to photo submission that is incredibly useful in getting recognized and wanted by an agency.

1.    When in doubt, go simple.

Modeling agencies are not interested in a ready-made product. More often than not, it gives the impression that you are inflexible and can only work with limited styles. Agencies would much rather prefer a model that they can match styles with and develop from scratch.
There is no need to submit studio quality shots. Simple portraits with adequate lighting and clarity are enough. Furthermore, if your shots don’t suit the style the agency wants (For example you take editorial photo shoots rather than television commercial shoots) you might appear unappealing. Agencies are not expecting grandeur; they want to see your raw and authentic beauty as much as possible for them to determine the kind of model they have to work with.

2.    Minimalism in style.
Don’t dress extravagantly in your photos (i.e. wedding dresses, prom dresses, expensive suits etcetera). Simple, plain colored clothing is enough. Most importantly, do not wear over revealing, or sexually provocative clothes. A Singapore model starting out is never required to send nudes or anything sexually sensitive unless you are a professional and established model and have filled in the proper paperwork for it.

Animal fur clothing is another issue you want to avoid. Fashion today is adapting to that which does not hurt other living beings or the environment. If the viewer of your photograph is sensitive on such issues, it may, in turn, affect your chances of joining the agency.

3.    Reveal your natural beauty.

Do not paint your face with excessive make-up, cosmetics or jewelry. A female model just needs to apply a little foundation, mascara, blush and lipstick, and a male model can apply a bit of powder without a noticeable change. For kids, it’s best to not have any make-up at all. Do wear any form of jewelry, but in minimal. Beyond affecting your natural look, do give the impression that you look and feel confident about yourself. This is very important as agencies want to view your natural face and the blank canvass that you provide them to work with.

4.    Don’t reveal your crazy and wild side.

Don’t submit photos that you took at a party last Friday night; Save it for Instagram. In general, do not submit photos with anyone in it other than yourself. Submit your single photo with class and professionalism.

5.    Flaunt it, if you have it.

If you do want to show your lively and eccentric personality in a professional manner you can try posing with a swimsuit. Confidence is the key and do make efforts to appear natural on your photos.

6.    One head shot and one body shot at a minimum.  Give a variety of emotions.

Take one head and one body shot at a minimum. Show left, and right poses. Don’t smile in all photos, use your creativity and show various emotions to show your expressive versatility. Don’t be stingy with your expressions.

7.    Make sure your photos are an actual representation of your physical body.

Never submit a photo which is totally different what you look like. The last impression you want to make is that you’re a person that lacks integrity or confidence. It will also disappoint the agency you are applying for when they meet a totally different person from what they saw on your photograph.

8.    Let your hair loose.

Ok, 2 things here, one is the metaphorical version of the expression, be completely relaxed in your photographs. One of the key distinctions between a model and others is his/her confidence. Do not show your stress. Next, in the literal sense let your hair loose, keep it neat and luscious. Agencies want to know what kind of hair you have that they can work with.

9.    Avoid background clutter.

Do not distract the viewer with too many things in the background. The agency wants to see only YOU, so stick with solid colored backgrounds.

10.    Provide your contact details.

Agencies will be quick to call you for an interview upon glancing through your photographs so make sure while providing your accurate contact information you remain contactable. You will also be contacted for jobs if you are selected, so be readily contactable.

A good photograph is a product of a countless number of attempts. Thus, invest time and effort in creating photos that will stand out from your competition.  A Singapore model of today will have a tough time out beating the competition in the growing modeling industry. All in all, do your homework on the agency before submitting your photographs.

How to get Scouted by a Model Agency?

There is more than a single way to enter into a Singapore modeling agency, and being scouted is one way. This may come off as a surprise but being scouted doesn't necessarily mean you need to have a tall height, slender figure or skin color requirements; instead agencies look for your personality and a physical appearance that suits the masses. Taking this into account, we reveal some insider tricks into getting scouted.

Social Media

You might have already guessed it, Instagram! Of course, there are many platforms but when it comes to fashion and lifestyle, but it's hard to beat the simple yet elegant way Instagram can market your abilities. Be up to date with latest fashion trend hashtags such as #fashionweekend #beautyblogger #outfitoftheday and plenty of others to get spotted by Scouters online.

With that said, don't create a modeling account and upload professional photos. Scouters of talent want to see photos that you post casually and they want to know how you look naturally. Post your lifestyle trendily, and use your caption to state quality opinions. This will mark you out above the rest as the best.

Be Natural

Almost everyone, let alone modeling agencies, will be able to know if you use excessive make-up or wear too much jewelry to elevate your appearance. Be modest with your make up and be simple wherever possible. Your authentic features should resonate more. This involves proper beauty care, eating healthily, drinking enough water, getting adequate sleep and lowering your body stress levels. Check out this ultimate modeling guide

Go to the Big Shows and Have a Vibrant Personality

Scouters are hard at work at major cultural and fashion festivals. This is because they know these shows attract much youth suitable for a modeling career. Be on your A game, and most importantly have fun, network and socialize with as many people as you can.

Do your Research

Dress simply, and be involved in the town and city life every so often. Who knows you might get scouted and given an incredible opportunity.

If you do happen to get scouted, take their name card and read up on the agency's reviews and testimonials. Any credible Singapore modeling agency would have a good online and social media presence that appeals to models and various clients. Check their credibility and ensure that their modeling job types suit your style.

In that vein, contact modeling agencies yourself and go down for an interview. Even if you are completely new to the industry, a professional Singapore modeling agency will assist in creating a standard portfolio for you. At the least, ask many questions and find out what you can do to improve yourself.

Singapore is a bustling hub to many fields of work, and is increasingly also home to fashion and a thriving industry. Modeling is today a competitive and lucrative line of work. Hence, do your homework and be passionate to make a name for yourself and scouters will naturally find you.

How to Pick the Kids for a Best Modelling Agency?

There are so many kids modelling agencies in Singapore! How do you choose the best one out of all?

Does your pretty or handsome kid have a natural knack for posing in front of the camera? Do they envision becoming the next Miranda Kerr, Tyra Banks or star on Victoria’s Secret? Are they confident in front of the camera and express a vibrant personality?

Your kiddo may be the next big star! It’s better to start at a certain young age where the mind is perfectly suited to learn new things. However, there are a few noteworthy pointers to determine whether your child is best suited for modeling, and that you are picking the best kid for job.

Both Parent and Child must be committed to modeling

Modeling is serious business and may take a toll on a kid at a young age. There will be a need to spend time or traveling to various places. Usually shoots for kids last around 2 to 3 hours which require high levels patience, tolerance, and cooperation on the part of the kid. Shoots may happen amidst working or schooling hours, which will require the kid to skip some hours, or for the parent to skip work to fit shoots in their schedule. Sacrificing some leisure time might become a norm too, as kids modeling demands children and parents to give it high priority and adopt a committed mindset.

Realistic Expectations

Perhaps the most realistic factor to consider is the limited success, recognition, and earnings at the onset of modeling. Sure a kid may aspire to be the next Hermione Granger of Harry Potter who will in his/her latter years become a supermodel like Emma Watson. But truth is kid models are likely to be inexperienced and have much room for development in terms of style, skill, and personality. As such their opportunities may be initially limited, usually around 2 to 3 assignments a month ranging $50-75 per hour on average. As such it becomes important to start off modeling with a love and passion for excelling in it, rather than focusing too much on financial reward.

A kid and parent alike must be able to embrace rejection from clients, and work up their way in the industry. Rejection from model agencies or clients doesn’t mean the child isn’t good enough, but more often they aren’t going for that style or look. Keep trying with other agencies, and hard work pays off.

Good Looks Don’t Guarantee Success in Modeling

Looking good with the key features such as angular face structure, good skin tone, and symmetrical face are all plus points and definitely attributes of a good model, but they alone are not enough. If your kid is extremely restless, tends to fidget continuously, unable to take advice and instructions from strangers, and doesn’t like to smile or to pose convincingly, these will all lead toward disaster in the modeling industry. Although these problems are rarely seen amongst adults, they are prevalent in kids, which create an uphill battle in achieving good contracts and assignments from the modelling agencies Singapore

Eat healthily and be Physically Active

This advice is given to all models alike but it’s especially more important for children, who can be easily attracted to junk food and sweet drinks. A kid should try to keep the expected body figure as much as possible. An active lifestyle comes into effect in keeping up the proper shape as well. Make sure they run around the field every once in a while apart from being stuck on their computer games or play station. Make sure, the kid is medically fit and capable enough to stand and pose for a long period of time too.

Lastly, parents shouldn’t force their kids to enter modeling and force upon them what they don’t like. Modeling should be a personal choice, and done only because they enjoy it. Ultimately that is what will see them through the tough phases of their work. Modeling isn’t for everyone, so make sure you understand the agency you are working with and the requirements expected of your child before making a long term commitment.

Top 5 Qualities that a Model Agency in Singapore Look for in a Model

In a model agency Singapore based, the sheer diversity, allows everyone to stand a valid chance in modeling. However simply “looking good” isn’t enough, and there are certain qualities you need to possess that will help you stand out from the competition.

Being a hub of many things Singapore’s recent aspiration is to be a fashion hub as well, and it certainly has all the potential to be so. However, a unique position we are put in is our multi-ethnic and diverse range of people and models. Models, particularly those selected for advertorials and commercials, are often chosen by clients based on how relatable they are to the audience and how they represent the general population. For example, big brands like Nike have started using plus sized models because they represent American women better, so that people will believe and relate to their products more as well.

1.    Being Natural and Confident in your Body

Modeling isn’t how about whether you are short or tall, fat or thin, but it’s more about being confident and natural with the way you handle your body. Knowledge of various poses and styles will be useful when it comes to testing shoots and allows the photographer to easily work with you for complex shots. This will gain you a better reputation, a better portfolio and future chances can be created.  Many times your interviews will also assess your confidence and your ability to convince clients of your modeling expertise and worth. Hence, this brings into play the need to have a confident personality.

2.    Photogenic Look

However good your features are in real life, when it comes to modeling you must have a camera friendly look. Photogenic characteristics are usually inherited naturally. Features such as angular bone and jaw structure, symmetrical face, even skin tones, are some aspects, which create an attractive look and make you look pleasant to the eye. Through posing properly, being confident with your stance and managing your look, we can help us develop the skills to be photogenic and naturally appealing face structure holds great importance as well. This doesn’t mean it is a biased job, anyone can still be a model, and a modeling agency can still want the look you have depending on the suitability of your role for the project. As long as you passionate enough, you can give it a shot.

3.    Creating a Successful Portfolio
Initial investments of time and money have to be made to create a portfolio that appeals to clients. Many people easily dismiss this process as expensive and tedious, but truth is a successful portfolio is akin to a resume and is the ticket to many opportunities for success and is something that is required to establish oneself in a model agency Singapore based.

4.    Good Posture and Runway Model Abilities
If you are a model, who wants to make it big in the industry and aspire beyond small roles, you will likely be involved in runway modeling. Too much slouching or bent back problems must be sorted out quickly. A model needs to be able to walk straight and symbolize confidence.

5.    Strong Network of Contacts and Bookers
To get the best modeling job opportunities you need to have good contacts and a network of clients. Model agency Singapore based, such as Create Talents and Models will have specialized bookers who link up model with their unique styles to various clients.

Create Talents and Models Review - Anna T

Here’s Create Talents and Models review by Anna T. Check out what she has to tell about us and the modelling industry.

Hi, Anna Please introduce yourself.
Hi, my name is Anna T, and I’m currently studying design at Temasek poly. My hobbies will be playing computer games and drawing.

How did you know about Create Talents and models?
Honestly, I didn’t know about Create Talents, I only knew about it when they scouted me at Dhoby Ghaut and Bedok.

How did that experience of being scouted feel like?
I think anyone will feel very honored if they were scouted to be a model so of course, I was very flattered because I myself didn’t have confidence in my looks and in my face I had very low self-esteem before I was scouted.

Did you think Create Talents is a scam?
Initially, I thought Create Talents was a scam but as I got recruited about five times, during the third or fourth time I decided to do my own research. So as I went through forums and the internet, I actually realized that this might be a legit company.

What do you like best about being a model?
It really gave me a chance and opportunity to really gain more self-confidence. Like I said, I was someone with really low self-esteem. So modeling for events and photo shoots really taught me that anyone can be a model if they really wanted to.

How did being a model benefit you?
Being a model really benefited me as I got more exposure, more confidence, I get to see more things in the industry and as a designer, what I need is more exposure. I need to see more things to view the world as it really is, to gain more inspiration for my works for example.

How did modeling change your life?
Personally, I don’t really think modeling has changed my life as of now, but what has changed is my personality. I got more confidence, I’m more outgoing now because as I grow I want to have confidence in my looks and when I do get the confidence I feel that it really changes me, I am more outgoing, I can talk louder now, for example.

What are the events you have done so far?

So far the event I have done is the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The modeling experience I have gained from that night is probably ushering and a lot of cat walking I would say. But I am more open to future events like Fashion shows or hair shows. I want to grab as many opportunities as I can to really broaden up my horizons.

What advice would you give your friends who want to join Create Talents?
Honestly, if my friends were to ask me, I will say Create Talents will definitely give you more confidence and if you are a girl like me you love to dress up a lot and Create Talents will definitely let you do that a lot. Of course, it will also help you increase your network more and teach you how to socialize more and that is very important for anyone I believe.

What made you feel at ease working at Create Talents?
What made me feel at ease would be the staff members here. They are really kind and reassuring and they are very patient to answer my inquiries and not to mention the wide range of portfolios that they have. That really taught me that they aren’t just an agency. They are out there to really make you a successful model.

Who would like to thank?

First of all, I would really like to thank my booker Emily, I love you a lot. Yea, she is always there to really give me jobs and very patient and kind to me and I will like to thank my makeup artist for always making me look better, you are the best.
