Why I chose this? As my friend recommended Create Talents and soon I found that Create Talent gave me a Talent for modeling.

Do you think Create Talents and Models is a scam?

I think Create Talents isn’t a scam, as they gave me many opportunities that I think they had. As well that they gave me so many experiences and I am grateful for it.

Why did you choose to be a model?

Why I chose to be a model was well to get paid and some other things like meeting new exciting people and becoming friends with them as well as brand new exciting experiences like being in a movie or even a TV show.

Why modeling benefits me?

Modeling benefits my drama. Modeling benefits my fashion sense and modeling benefits my confidence.

How has your life changed through modeling?

Modeling hasn’t affected my life yet, but in the future, it will affect it dramatically. Throughout my modeling experience, I have done the kids fashion show, and I have done an Asia Tour promotion. What I learnt from that is well I looked good in any type of clothes, and confidence is the key.

Why did you choose to work for Create Talents?

Why I chose to work for Create Talents, was for the experiences and the great people. I couldn’t have done this without the bookers, the cameraman, the director, the makeup artist, and my parents.

Singapore, a landmark for many facets of the global community is also an aspiring hub of fashion. Its small size doesn’t mean the lack of talent but rather the concentration of talent in a small island. Even for fashion, especially commercial modeling in Singapore, it’s highly competitive and requires an acute sensing of the industry and relevant expertise. Buckle up while we drive you through the must-knows of how to become a model in Singapore.

Diversity

Singapore is a home to 4 major races and has about half the population consisting of foreigners. Being such an open and diverse society has a direct impact on the DNA of the modeling and fashion industry in Singapore. With multiple race and cultures, clients are having a harder time seeking the best models to fit their jobs; it has thus become harder to amalgamate models with societal expectations. Thus modeling in Singapore is unlike most other countries or modeling regions, have to be flexible and work with different costume type and be able to capture the emotion and essence of various cultural products and services.

Portfolio + Comp card

 A portfolio and a comp card akin to a resume in the modeling industry and are of high importance in attracting clients and securing jobs. It doesn’t matter how good your looks or personality is if the camera cannot capture it; that is where the portfolio and comp card show the potential client that you are camera friendly.

First, a comp card, short for composite card compiles your best body features in an A5 sized card and includes critical information such as height, weight, key sizes (bust, waist and hips). It succinctly provides information about you that is relevant to the client. If your comp card is appealing enough, the client will most likely proceed to view your portfolio, which neatly displays photos of your past projects your test shoots and may even include URLs to videos  (Not common but can be included if there is a video that is done that is very credible). A portfolio should include at least one shot that is formal, informal/casual attires with front, side, half body and full body shots.

Social Media and Insta Modeling

Use social media to your advantage and especially in the digital age it makes good sense to be active online so that potential agencies or scouters are able to find you and assess your potential. However, it is not necessary or perhaps better not to post professional studio quality photos. This will make your social media account no different from your portfolio. Agencies want to look at photos that are posted casually without any expectations. They also want to know that you know how to have a good time and have an outgoing persona.

Pageant and competitions

Pageants and modeling competitions are the other ways to enter into the modeling industry if you are willing and able to be exposed quickly and can handle the fame and attention that comes with it. However depending on the competition you participate in your success would depend on the networks you have and the wealth at your disposal to invite friends to a pageant to vote to for you. Plan your Wardrobe

Research on modeling poses

No photographer wants to deal with a model lacking creativity and initiative. Cool your head, and confidently experiment with your body and execute various poses. Never hold a pose longer than expected, work in tune with the photographer.  Here are some tips on what you can do with your body:

1.    Touch your cheeks lightly, open your mouth slightly (Give a subtle inviting posture to the viewer).

2.    Avoid placing your hands flat on your body and don’t exert too much tension on them and as it can be obviously seen. Be gentle and place them on various parts of body gently.

3.    Change your expressions. One great way to do that is to think of experiences that match the theme of your photo shoot. For instance, if you need to smile, think of your happiest experiences and add a natural positive vibe to the photo.

4.    Never be a pole. By this we mean, don’t pose with a straight body to the camera. Tilt your head, twist your body two-thirds from the camera, or at minimum put your hand on hips with your elbows pushed back.

5.    Flaunt the shape of your body by putting one hand on the waist and holding the elbow of the other hand.

6.    Play with your hair, especially for women. Be creative, experiment with placing various sides of your hair over and behind your different shoulders.

7.    Keep your chin down, Neck forward, and bring your ears forward. Tilting it as such avoid the double chin face, and emphasizes your angular features on your face.

8.    Adhere to the ‘Follow your nose rule’ for your eyes. Your eyes are the focus of photos. Too much white in your eyes can affect the color and contrast pattern of the eyes. Simply following the direction of your nose can give the most suitable eye positioning.

9.     Don’t keep the arm pressed against your body; this will make it appear larger than its normal size. Lift it slightly even for simple poses to exhibit your natural arm size.

Smize

Following the tips on your photo shoot is essential but you would also have to practice them on your own as well. One key practice that is absolutely essential is the practice of Smizing, also known as smiling with your eyes. Look at this Tyra Banks video and see what it’s all about. 

Practice by squint your eyes and using the muscles at the temple of the face region. Avoid staring; be conscious of your eyes as it’s usually the center of focus for most viewers.
